My Books are here!

I just finished helping the truck driver unload the rest of my books. I can now start shipping these to all of you who pre-ordered "Some of their parts" (the book). Thank you for your patience, and keep an eye on your mailbox (or your front doorstep) in the coming days.

Once I finished putting the boxes away, I noticed a curious misspelling on the shipping boxes.

Little did I know my humble little art project would be so intrinsically linked to popular culture.

Fortunately, the books are correct.

LOL!

Thank you, Brenda

ODC Dance staged a rare preview of a new composition by Brenda Way at the ODC Theater: Unintended Consequences: A Meditation. The Company doesn't often perform in this intimate space, and the evening was a treat for the 200+ in attendance. They were mostly long-time ODC Dance supporters and board members.

I naturally took the opportunity to show up and crash their wine reception because my show is in their lobby. It was exciting to "be with the work" amongst hundreds of people who weren't otherwise familiar with me or my show. And I must say, the results were wonderful. People were really touched by the stories and the photographs. I overheard numerous conversations of a complimentary nature, and saw a lot of people pointing to their forearms in a gesture which clearly indicated there were goosebumps involved.

I brought out my fisheye lens to see if I could get a single photograph of the entire installation, and I finally succeeded, even though if you look closely you can see my tripod legs in the bottom of the frame. :-)

The dance performance was awesome, and I posted a photo gallery of a few of my favorite photographs from the evening.

We're part of the permanent record

I got my first mention in the blogosphere yesterday when dogmom11 gave me some nice props (even though she didn't care much for the show in the theater).

Another fun time-lapse movie

I posted another funny time-lapse movie, this one from the day of my artist's reception (Sunday Sep 9 2007).

For those of you who are curious about how this is done, here are the techie details...

  1. I placed my old video camera (Sony TRV900) on a mini tripod high above the gallery floor.
  2. I configured it so it recorded 1/2 second of video every 60 seconds throughout the day.
  3. Once we got back home and recovered, I imported the video (about five minute's worth) into Final Cut Pro and sped it up again by a factor of six, then exported it to Quicktime's H.264 format.
There, aren't you happy you asked? :-)

The reception

Thank you to all my friends and...dare I say..."fans" who came out last Sunday to our opening reception. By our count we had somewhere between 100 and 200 people come by. We sold books and prints, poured some wonderful wine (thank you to Ken from La Honda Winery) and dispensed some delicious cheese and other snacks (thank you to Marcia Barkoff).

Here are some photos from the day...

Thanks, Krysta

Our silly friend Krysta brought me a wonderful (and yummy!) gift in tribute to the opening of the ODC Theater show. The details are wonderful, all the way down to my signature hoop earring. But Krysta couldn't remember if my earring was gold or silver, and all she had was the black and white photo on my postcards, so my cookie effigy got a silver earring! LOL

How to hang an art exhibit in 53 seconds

I put together this time lapse Quicktime movie of the day we hung the show. Thanks to Don, Cynthia and Doreen for all the help and their steady eyes.

Some of their parts is live

Welcome to my blog.

I hope to keep you updated on my progress as Some of their parts evolves. Here is where I am as of today:

My show at the ODC Theater gallery is hung and ready to entertain the throngs.

The books are on their way from the printers in Korea and should be here any day. I can't wait.

I am speaking to several local curator types about future destinations for the exhibit.

Thank you for all the cards and letters, and make sure to keep telling all your friends about this exciting project!
